3M’s Command Strips Making Waves Both On And Offline

September 26, 2008 – 10:47 pm | by Daryl Tay

A couple of weeks ago there was a huge van on campus and people were invited to step in. On stepping in, you found out it was a “room” with 3M Command Strips holding numerous things up. (3M Command Strips are essentially sticky strips that you can use to attach things on the wall, and then remove with no damage). It was interesting, they gave us a chance to win everything in the room (including a tv) and handed out a few samples. Well done, move on.

Yesterday I see this Facebook advertisement asking “Wall or window? Which is better for the pigeon?” with the picture of a guy hanging an art piece featuring a pigeon. It got me curious enough to click, which took me to this page: Art On Command

As you can probably guess, it shows an art piece being attached to a wall using Command Strips. The video is campy (in a good way) and 3M is upfront about it being a fictional art installation company.

I don’t know how successful this is, but as a consumer, I’m greatly enjoying seeing 3M engage me both in real life and online and if I do need to hang items in my room in the future, this might be a good choice!
